It was a successful first 3 days of our first guests since 2019. 7 different fishermen caught a total of 8 Master Anglers. Congratulations on all of them and thank you for you support in these crazy times.

Today was an exciting and happy day at Budd’s Gunisao Lake Lodge as we welcomed our first group of guests since August of 2019.
It was definitely also the warmest season opener that we have ever seen! ☀️ 😎🎣

With a heavy heart, I am announcing the passing of

With a heavy heart, I am announcing the passing of Dr. James K. Budd. He passed in his sleep on October 12 at 88 years young. From his love of hunting, fishing and sports, to his sarcasm and quick wit, Doc will be remembered and missed by so many people in the lives he had touched. From the countless podiatry patients, friends and family in Michigan, Florida and Manitoba, people all around the Arabian horse industry, and from people throughout the fishing resort industry, Doc has made an impact on so many of us. Please say a prayer for him on his new adventure and remember him through his stories and past adventures. We can all say with the utmost certainty he has lived a very full life.

Years ago 2020 seemed like an eternity away, by the time it arrived we should’ve been flying around in hover vehicles Jetson style. Instead we find ourselves physically cutoff from friends, family and the everyday lives we once knew, while fighting an invisible enemy and hoping that everyone we know stays safe and well. We have all been impacted by Covid-19 in one way or another through business, education, friends or family. To say the least, 2020 has brought with it some very trying times.

With heavy hearts Budd’s Gunisao Lake Lodge announces the official cancellation of its 2020 season. We have held on to the hope of opening the doors to our guests and staff for as long as we possibly could. When Plan A couldn’t work, we made a Plan B, then Plan C and well you get the idea. Unfortunately with the US and Canada Border being closed to regular travel as well as the 14 days of quarantine remaining in place until the end of August (at minimum), we have been dealt a forced hand. We must move to Plane E, making this announcement. Budd’s Gunisao Lake Lodge will not be opening in 2020.

Thank you to all the guests that have tried to rebook for later this summer and to all the guests that have rebooked for 2021. Budd’s Gunisao Lake Lodge’s future might seem uncertain to some, but with such loyal and understanding guests we look forward to telling fish stories, having some laughs, writing names on the Budd’s Master Angler board and having a cold one while sitting on the deck of the lodge with you in 2021.

Last weekend was spent having some amazing family

Last weekend was spent having some amazing family time up at Budd’s! Sun, sand, water, laughs and lots of fishing and shore lunches were had.
Jennie landed a 30” walleye and her sister, Bev, landed a 28 1/2” walleye.
Jennie’s brother, Chris, landed a 41” northern, Jason, her brother-in-law, landed a 41 1/2 “ northern.

It’s been a busy week at Budd’s taking on projects that we would never be able to during a regular season, but we managed to fit in a little world class fishing too 😉🎣
Mark, our pilot, landed a 30 1/2 and a 29. Dusty landed a 28, 30 1/4, and a 28.

Another Budd’s First due to the pandemic. Jackson & Dakota wrapped up their school year at the lodge. It’s bittersweet being up here so early and having so much time to go fishing as a family. They were robbed like so many others of more time with their fantastic teachers and hang time with their friends. Home economics was heavily added to their daily routines 😉 and teachers continued to astound with their adaptation to the times and devotion to their students.
Congratulations Jackson and Dakota on another school year conquered!
And a huge THANK YOU to TEACHERS everywhere, you are amazing!
